The most attractive employers for German young professionals with a business or engineering background are Audi, BMW and Porsche. For those with a background in natural sciences, Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and Bayer are most popular, while the young IT experts favour Google, SAP and Audi. The most important criteria young professionals use when choosing their ideal employer are a competitive base salary, secure employment and a friendly work environment. Regarding long-term career goals work-life balance is most important career goal, followed by job security and being intellectually challenged. These are the results of Universum’s survey of almost 5,000 young professionals in Germany covering themes such as their ideal employers, drivers of employers’ attractiveness and young professionals’ long-term career goals.
The automobile industry is the winner
For young professionals, the automobile industry is the most popular sector and has been for several years. In both rankings covering young professionals with a business and engineering backgrounds there are five automobile companies in top 10. Audi, BMW and Porsche form the top trio and have been on the top 5 since 2008. Daimler/Mercedes-Benz has climbed two positions from last year and is now in sixth position among the young engineers and seventh among those with a business background – the company has almost always been among the top 10 since 2008. Also popular among the young engineers is Bosch Rexroth (position 11), ZF Friedrichshafen (position 24) and Continental (position 25).
